Tom Cruise is well known for his daredevil stunts. It is no surprise that he now has his sights on space.
Tom Cruise may now attempt a spacewalk after completing every stunt on Earth. The Hollywood star at 60 has teamed with The Bourne Identity Director Doug Liman to pitch a movie that will involve filming in space. The plans for the movie were first reported back in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic stopped the project.
Now, Universal studio’s chairwoman, Dame Donna Langley, has confirmed to BBC that Mr Cruise is one of the studio’s goals. She gave details of the project, saying that Mr Cruise and Mr Liman (who previously worked with the actor in Edge of Tomorrow) pitched the film during the pandemic. Ms Langley explained that the movie is set on Earth and the character must then travel up into space to save the day.
“Tom Cruise is taking the world to space. He’s taking the whole world to space. That’s our plan,” Ms Langley stated to the outlet.
“We have a great idea in the works with Tom. It does envisage him flying a rocket into space. He may be the first civilian ever to walk in space outside of the International Space Station. He will be a down on his luck character who is the only one who can save Earth,” she said.
Although the film is still in the dream stage, production has not started yet. Tom Cruise would be the first star of a movie to shoot in outerspace on the International Space Station if it gets production off the ground.
Note that Mr. Cruise has narrated the 2022 documentary Space Station via Earth. It is not surprising that Cruise is now aiming for space.
