Twitter spokeswoman told AFP Sunday that West was locked because of a violation by the platform’s policies.
Meta, the parent of Instagram, spoke out to AFP and said that they had deleted content — but did not specify which posts — from West’s account in violation of its rules.
According to the same source Instagram also restricted his account. This may have resulted in him being unable to post, comment, or send private messages.
The rapper tweeted, which is not visible anymore on West’s Twitter account, that he was “a bit sleepy tonight but I’m going death kon 3 On JEWISH PEOPLES,” in apparent reference the US military readiness code DEFCON.
The restrictions were placed on West, a Black artist, after Ye stirred controversy with his “White Lives Matter” T-shirt at the Paris Fashion Week. This was a misappropriation from the slogan “Black Lives Matter.”
Black Lives Matter was a rallying call for protests against racism, police brutality, and the 2020 assassination of George Floyd.
Friday’s screen shot of West and Diddy chatting on Instagram showed West at 45.
“Ima will use you as an illustration to show the Jewish people that you told to call me that I am not a threat or influencer. I said this was war. He said, “Now get some business.” Images can still be found online, though the posts have been removed from the platform.
On Twitter, he said that he would attack Jewish people in a tweet that was blocked by the platform due to violating its rules.
American Jewish Committee (AJC), hit out at West because he “fomented hatred against Jews.”
According to the group, Kanye West must find a way of making a point without using antisemitism.
West, who is not afraid of controversy, has previously been open about his struggle with bipolar disorder. In March, he was banned from posting to Instagram for 24 hours due to a bitter divorce from Kim Kardashian.
Adidas, the German sportswear giant, announced earlier this week that it is reevaluating its partnership with West after West reportedly became disgruntled at how the brand was marketing their products.
Last month, West announced that a partnership with Gap had ended.
