After posting a bond and Anna Sorokin using the name Anna Delvey, a judge granted conditional release to her.
Fake heiress Anna Sorokin is still facing deportation from the United States after her incredible deceit of New York’s financial elite inspired a hit Netflix show.
Anna Sorokin (known as Anna Delvey) was a fraudster who stole more than a quarter-million dollars from friends, banks and hotels. She was released conditionally after posting a bail, a spokesperson for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stated to AFP.
The German national, aged 30, was released in February 2021 after she had completed a portion of her four-to-12 year sentence. However, she was again arrested the following month for having overstayed her visa.
Sorokin will remain in New York City until her $10,000 bond is paid. She will wear an electronic bracelet, and cannot use social media.
Sorokin has been fighting for her deportation to Germany for the past 18 months, filing several appeals.
Last November, Sorokin was granted an emergency request by the Board of Immigration Appeals to allow her to remain in the United States while she is being removed. This will enable her to continue to live outside of the confines of the detention center.
Sorokin, a Russian truck driver’s daughter, was born in Moscow. She emigrated to Germany as a teenager.
After arriving for Fashion Week 2013 in 2013, she assumed the name Anna Delvey. She posed as Anna Delvey, the heiress of a fortune totaling $60 million.
Because of her large designer glasses, Sorokin is instantly recognisable. She used her incredible ability to weave lies to obtain bank loans in the tens of thousands, free travel by private jet, and credit in Manhattan hotels.
In 2017, she was arrested and convicted. Two years later, she inspired Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”, “Scandal”) (TV producer) to make her the subject in the Netflix mini-series “Inventing Anna”, starring Julia Garner.
