Iran Protests. Three days after Amini was placed in a coma by Tehran police, protests erupted throughout Iran.
Iran has indicted more than 100 people in 2 provinces in protest against the violence sparked last month by Mahsa’s death in custody, according to the judiciary on Wednesday.
Protests broke out in Iran on September 16, when Amini was pronounced dead three days after she was placed into a coma by Tehran’s morality officers following her arrest for allegedly violating the Islamic republic’s strict dress code.
Police made hundreds arrests and prosecutors promised quick justice for “rioters”.
60 of the prosecutions were in Tehran, while 65 people were charged with “recent violence” in Hormozgan’s southern province, according the Mizan Online news website.
“Given that rioters played an important role in the organisation illegal gatherings arson and attacks upon public and private property and sowed terror amongst the population, Mojtaba Ghahremani, chief justice of Hormozgan, has launched swift investigations into these cases,” Mizan Online was told by Mojtaba Ghahremani.
Iranian media reported, on September 25, that 88 protesters were detained in Hormozgan. Nearly 1,200 additional people, 60 of whom women, were also arrested in the northern provinces.
Mizan Online: Ali Salehi, Tehran prosecutor said that anyone who attacks people’s property, lives, lives, or the security of their city, or who encourage or support riots, will be dealt with immediately.
