Real Estate Developer Arrested After Son’s Deadly Crash

Crash

Pune Police have taken Vishal Agrawal into custody, the father of a 17-year-old boy responsible for a deadly crash involving a speeding Porsche. This tragic incident, which claimed the lives of two people, led to Agrawal’s arrest in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, after he initially evaded authorities following the case registration on May 20.

The accident happened early Sunday morning in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar when the Porsche, driven by the minor, collided with a motorcycle ridden by tech professionals Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Ashwini died on the spot, and Aneesh succumbed to his injuries shortly after hospital admission. The minor was controversially granted bail within 14 hours, causing significant public outrage.

Agrawal faces charges under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Additionally, three bar executives—Cosie restaurant owner Pralhad Bhutda, manager Sachin Katkar, and Hotel Black manager Sandip Sangle—were arrested for serving alcohol to the minor. CCTV footage showed the teenager consuming alcohol at one of the bars, prompting their arrest.

The timeline reveals that the teenager and his friends were at Cozy Bar until midnight, then moved to Black Bar until 1 am. The crash occurred around 3:15 am. Allegations of the minor receiving preferential treatment from police, including being served food and intervention from an MLA of the Ajit Pawar NCP faction, drew criticism from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who called for the dismissal of the Pune police commissioner.

The victims’ families expressed deep sorrow and called for harsh measures against reckless driving. Ashwini Koshta’s father, Suresh, lamented their shattered dreams, while her brother Sampreet highlighted the need for strict actions to prevent such incidents. Aneesh Awadhiya’s uncle, Akhilesh, criticized the lenient bail terms, calling the minor a “human bomb.”

The minor, released by the Juvenile Justice Board, was instructed to learn traffic rules and write an essay on road accidents. Pune Police intend to petition a higher court to try the teenager as an adult. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar pledged to thoroughly prove the crime’s seriousness. Witnesses reported three occupants in the Porsche, with one fleeing post-crash. All occupants were reportedly intoxicated.
