Vineet Nayyar, a distinguished leader in the Indian business world and former executive vice chairman of Tech Mahindra, passed away at the age of 85. His death marks the conclusion of a pivotal chapter for the Mahindra Group, where his leadership played a crucial role.
Nayyar’s illustrious career began in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), followed by significant international positions, including a tenure at the World Bank. He made substantial contributions to India’s energy sector as the inaugural chairman of GAIL, setting the foundation for the state-owned corporation’s future success. Additionally, he held prominent roles in the tech industry, serving as the managing director of HCL Corporation Limited and vice chairman of HCL Technologies Limited.
In 2000, Vineet Nayyar joined Mahindra British Telecom (MBT), later renamed Tech Mahindra. Along with two colleagues, collectively known as the “Three Musketeers,” Nayyar infused a startup mindset into the company, elevating MBT to the top ranks of the Indian IT industry.
