Royal Mail, International Distributions Services’s subsidiary, didn’t give any details on how many customers data was compromised or how long it would take to get the website back online.
London:
Royal Mail said Tuesday that it had temporarily stopped accessing its online parcel tracking and postal service on Tuesday due to reports that some customers were able see information about other users’ orders.
The issue comes one day after Royal Mail’s largest labour union rejected an updated pay offer in a long-running disagreement. Meanwhile, the firm works on a plan for shifting its focus to parcels and improving efficiency amid declining letter volumes.
According to a tracking website, the problem appeared to have begun at 1300 GMT. Royal Mail (owned by International Distributions Services) did not disclose how many customers data may have been compromised, nor how long it would take for the website to be brought back online.
“We understand your pain and apologize for any inconvenience. It stated that engineers were working hard to get site running again as expected.
Royal Mail’s Click and Drop service lets customers pay for their postage online and print labels. Customers can also track parcels or posts once they have been delivered. This service is available to individuals as well as businesses.
