Yuri Milner, a Silicon Valley billionaire investor, stated Monday that he had renounced Russian citizenship.
“My family and me left Russia in 2014 after the Russian annexe of Crimea. “This summer, we officially completed our process of renoncing our Russian citizenship,” tweeted Milner, a Moscow-born Milner.
Milner is the founder of DST Global internet investment firm and was one of the initial investors in Facebook. DST Global also stated that Milner has been an Israeli citizen ever since 1999 in a factsheet posted on their website.
According to the report, venture capitalist and scientist physicist does not have any assets in Russia. 97 percent of his wealth came from other sources.
It said that Yurik had never met Vladimir Putin either as an individual or as a group.
Milner’s Breakthrough Prize Foundation (non-profit) has condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“As Ukraine’s terrible war continues, with casualties rising, the Breakthrough Prize Foundation strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and its unprovoked, brutal assaults upon the civilian population,” it released in March.
DST Global reports that Milner’s foundations donated $11 million to aid refugees from Ukraine as well as scientists forced to flee Ukraine.
Milner and Stephen Hawking (the late British cosmologist) announced in 2016 an ambitious space mission for Alpha Centauri. This mission would use tiny, ultralight space vehicles or “nanocraft”, which are light-propelled, ultralight space vehicles.
Milner also funded the massive search for intelligent extraterrestrial intelligence in a $10-million, 10-year program to scan all of the heavens.
