A Luxembourg businessman, Flavio Becca, stated that he would need to agree to a short-term financial plan before referring to certain conditions.
Flavio, a Luxembourg businessman, has been in talks with the FC Kaiserslautern board to save the once-proud club. According to media reports, Flavio Becca offered to lend the club the money it needed to keep its professional license with the German football association, DFB. The club currently ranks 11th in the German third-division. Flavio Becca was even suggested to buy the Fritz Walter stadium, named for the club’s most prominent player and captain of West Germany’s 1954 World Cup winning team.
However, German media Kicker and SWR reported on Thursday that Becca had placed certain conditions on financial assistance. If Martin Bader, a controversial sports business manager, extends his contract, Flavio Becca would be willing to lend the club EUR2.6million.
Kaiserslautern still attracts over 20,000 fans to its home games in the third Division, despite being relegated last year. This club has great potential. It has won five Bundesliga titles, the last being in 1998. However, it was last in the Bundesliga in 2011-12 when it was close to selling out crowds of 49,000.
Becca has a long history of investing in sports teams. Becca was a long-standing backer of F91 Dudelange. He helped the club become almost perpetual champions in Luxembourg. They even managed to qualify for the Europa League group stage . Becca was also an initial backer for the now defunct procycling team Leopard Trek, which was founded around the Schleck brothers.
